“The only thing we really have are our experiences, the rest stays on this earth”.

I’m Alejandro del Carpio, traveler and language lover from Peru.

During the past years I’ve experienced tons of great adventures and today I’m gonna tell you one of them:

In 2014, after finishing an internship in Rio de Janeiro I decided to do something different, something that would change my life; I started a bus trip back home to Piura – Peru. At the beginning I was frightened because I had never done something similar before. Anyways, I prepared my backpack, contacted family and friends that would host me on the road and started with my journey on October 1st.

At the beginning I had planned to travel for a month and get home for my birthday in late October but the trip was going so well that finally, on December 19th I arrived to Piura. In total I traveled for almost 10000 kilometers in which I took hundreds of photos and videos; visited 15 cities in Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru; I had the opportunity to visit World Wonders such as the Iguazu Falls and the stunning Machu Picchu. I also could visit very close friends on the road. It was a 79 days experience that would change my life.

And then… the worst happened

When I finally arrived home in Peru, I tried to turn on my laptop but it was impossible; then I took it to several repairing services and all of them continued to say the same, it was impossible to recover my files due to a failure in the hard drive. About 500 gigabytes in photos and videos were unrecoverable.

I’m of those who think that material goods are overrated and that our experiences and memories are the most precious thing we have, thus, to lose all the memories of my trip was a terrible shock for me. I only managed to recover some files that had uploaded to the cloud, which I’d use later to start with my travel blog: www.backpackpreneur.com.

I went to many places trying to recover my data and everyone said that the only solution was an expensive data recovery service.

That’s why I’m doing this; I need your help to open this magical vault so the world can discover the most wonderful sceneries and experiences South America has to offer.

With your support I will finally have back the most precious asset I have, my memories 🙂

Path of my Journey

As I’ve already told you, during my journey I visited 15 cities in 4 countries in South America.

Traveling by bus gave me the opportunity to be very spontaneous on my next destination. I sometimes decided which city would be the next right at the bus station; this helped me to visit some less known places that are also very charming and welcoming. The following is a list of the 15 places I visited and from which I’ll pick the best pictures for your perks:

Brazil: Rio de Janeiro, Ilha Grande, Santa Bárbara do Leste, São Paulo, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Foz do Iguazu.

Argentina: La Plata, Buenos Aires

Bolivia: Cochabamba, Copacabana

Peru: Puno, Cuzco, Lima, Piura
